mondo.rs

Mondo.rs was launched in September 2004 as a portal for mobile phone users, before becoming a web portal in December 2005. On the site, users can read news, sports and entertainment stories, and a special section of the site "Mondo TV" contains short news segments.
According to data from the Media Register of the Serbian Business Registry Agency, since February 2019, the official owner of the Mondo.rs portal is Igor Žeželj, through the company Mondo Inc.
Until February 2019, the ownership structure of Mondo.rs was not transparent and no information about it could be found in the Media Register. However, there were several indications that the portal was owned by Telekom Srbija AD, in which the Republic of Serbia has a majority of shares.
The Mondo.rs portal was established by the Telekom company in 2004. The then editor-in-chief of the Mondo portal, Predrag Vujić, confirmed in an interview with BIRN in October 2018 that Telekom Srbija was the owner of the portal. Subsequently, on the Register of National Internet Domains of Serbia (RNIDS), Telekom Srbija was listed as the owner of the mondo.rs domain. Moreover, on the company's website, in the 'Our websites' section, Mondo was listed as a Telekom Srbija site, while on the other hand, there was no ownership information in the portal's imprint.
All that changed in February 2019, when Igor Žeželj's company, Mondo Inc, officially became the owner of the portal. Since then, Mondo Inc. has been listed as the owner in all official registers.
Contrary to the facts, which indicated that the state, through Telekom, was the owner of Mondo, the public believed that the informal owner was Igor Žeželj, even before the company Mondo Inc. was officially registered in the Commercial Register as the owner of the portal. All of Žeželj's companies were located in Obilićev Venac in Belgrade, where the Mondo portal's editorial office was also located. Both shared a common workspace and also used the same phone number, which was visible on their websites.
In December 2022, the Mondo portal became a partner of the Euroaktiv network for Serbia. Euroaktiv is a portal that covers European Union politics and its leading daily newsletter, The Capitals, brings together news from across Europe. A special editorial office Euroaktiv Srbija was created within the Mondo portal, which started its work in January 2023.
In the period from the beginning of April to the end of June 2020, the Press Council analysed online media and found that the Mondo portal violated the Code of Ethics of Journalists of Serbia 56 times.
