Radio S2
Radio S2 mainly produces entertainment programs with occasional news broadcasts. The emphasis is on popular music with radio hosts who connect with the audience through quizzes or direct involvement in the programme. Radio S2 is among the 10 most listened-to radio stations with a national frequency. Since December 2015, Radio S2 has been broadcasting on a national frequency that once belonged to the Student Radio Index.
In 1992, the University of Belgrade founded Radio Index, which began broadcasting on the basis of a frequency-sharing agreement with RTS. The public service broadcaster provided the university radio with Studio 15 and technical support for 15 hours a day free of charge.
The Index continued to broadcast as a university radio until 1998 when it was forced to move out of RTS, which was under the strict control of the regime of Slobodan Milosevic. It continued broadcasting as a pirate radio station, covering the live fall of Milošević on 5 October 2000.
When allocating frequencies in 2006, the Radio Index received a national frequency from the Republic Broadcasting Agency (RRA). It was then speculated that the reason for obtaining the frequency was not the quality of the program, but personal acquaintances. Four members of the RRA, at that time decision-makers in the frequency allocation process, used to hold leading positions in the Radio Index, as editors, directors or program directors. Zoran Mihajlović, then the owner of 88% of Index's shares, and the president of the Association of Professional Broadcasters of Serbia have publicly confirmed their connection with the president of the Council of the RRA. Namely, they both worked on the Radio Index during the 1990s.
The ownership structure in the period from 2006 to 2015 remains unclear, but a change in the address or management structure of the radio has been recorded several times, indicating changes in ownership.
At the beginning of 2023, the ownership structure of Radio S2 changed. The Anđelković family, which ran Radio S2 for years, handed over the majority stake to Bogdan Todorović from Šabac.
Today, the S radio group also operates Radio S2, former Radio Index, Radio S3, former Radio Pingvin, Radio S4, former City Radio, as well as Radio S1 of Montenegro, Radio S3 of Montenegro and Radio S of BiH.
